okay.. This might offend some, but when was I afraid of going there? :) So many american soldiers disgust me. I keep seeing videos of these morons in iraq exploiting iraqi children for their own entertainment and making their own "jackass" style movies to make like-minded morons throughout the world appreciate their small minds (and hopefully small cocks) These jerks are representing our country and they have nothing else better to do than give small iraqi children chewing tobacco and watch them vomit! AND PUT IT ON TAPE! They make fun of their lack of comprehension of the english language. It's a shame that people who aren't fluent in english get ridiculed in our country. It's a bigger shame when they get ridiculed in their own! To look at our military situation truthfully and honestly for a second is to admit that the military is not where the scholars go. Most of them are minorities who didn't have a future or white southerners who got the wrong girl knocked up way to early in life. It's a rarity to find someone who joined the military simply because they wanted to defend and represent their country with dignity. Mostly it's either the free ride to school or the fact that they're not smart enough to get a higher education in the first place. Either way when I see these videos I feel grossly misrepresented as an american. Exploiting children in a downtrodden country IS terrorism. But, I guess there was never really an argument that we're that biggest terrorist around. |

i do want to clarify the title of the blog is reference to the "jackass" style videos these military people are making and not an insult to their character. The videos do enough of that alone!

Well, these videos aren't normally in the mainstream media.. Mostly sites like www.liveleak.com post them. And of course the anti-homosexuality beliefs of the military isn't going to make me it's number 1 fan to begin with, you're right!

I'd be interested to find out what the average age of new recruits is. I'm guessing it's pretty young. Most of the young people I know are fairly intelligent, but they haven't yet developed good judgement. That comes with age and experience. I'm not excusing anyone's actions here - merely pointing out a fact that allows me to have compassion and be forgiving the way I know people haven't been with me. My own little effort to stop the stereotyping and end the senseless hate. As with all things in the media, I have difficulty believing that what I see is representative of what's really going on. The most outrageous things get the most press. Nature of the beast. Doesn't mean every soldier is spending his/her time exploiting other people. The military has been notoriously anti-homosexual in policy. You've admitted you're homosexual. Something to think about.

Blak000, I definitely wrote the blog to signify the cultural ignorance of American society as a whole and in no way mean to depict our country as being accepting of minorities. As a homosexual man, I have less rights than most other groups in the country.

I also agree with tough cookie. I've met a few soldiers who returned from Iraq. They were good people, but they came back changed. I've heard some crazy stories about what the Iraquis do over there. I think the war sucks in general. I really hope America pulls out soon.

To be honest, the cultural ignorance you just mentioned, I think, ACCURATELY depicts American society. As a minority, I've had to deal with tons of cultural ignorance growing up (in CALIFORNIA, one of the most kick back states!)... it's ranged from something trivial like some idiot asking me if I'm from North Korea or South Korea (and if you don't see the big deal, then you're culturally ignorant, too) to just flat out being called a "chink" or "gook." If you really believe Americans are so enlightened, go up to any immigrant and ask them if they feel like they are perceived equally. I bet you many of them will tell you that they find Americans often base their intelligence based on their speech (not something I'm just pulling out of thin air, but something I learned in a class at UCLA).

Ok I have to comment on this. Tried not to but couldnt not. My husband served in Iraq he was not what you call a "Jackass soldier" infact he was there the day the war began everyone was afraid of the kids because they were a roose to distract soldiers while people opened fire on them. Sometimes the media shows dumb things but keep in mind those soldiers are scared for their lives.
